Lorain Ohio Po9lice Officer David Kusnir Illegally Bars City Councilman Dennis Flores From Neighborhood Watch Meeting

July 19th, 2008

LORAIN, OHIO — When City Councilman Dennis Flores showed up to a neighborhood watch meeting Thursday night, he was firmly asked to leave.

Several watch captains met at City Hall to plan a crime-prevention picnic in August. Flores said he is a watch captain, too, but when he tried to get into the meeting, he was stopped by Lorain police officer David Kusznir.

“He said he didn’t want me there,” Flores said. “I was worried that if I went in there, they would call the police and have me escorted off the property.”

Flores, D-2nd Ward, was charged May 23 with DUI and trying to solicit a prostitute. He was one of six men arrested during a citywide sting.

A pretrial has been set in Lorain Municipal Court for Aug. 22, but in the meantime, Flores said police who run the city’s neighborhood watch aren’t giving him any breaks.

Ohio State Police Caught Cheating On DUI Breathalyzer Proficiency Exams

July 17th, 2008

OHIO - Police officers administering tests used to determine whether a motorist is guilty of a serious drunk driving offense may not actually know what they are doing. The Ohio Inspector General yesterday released a scathing report that accused a state highway patrol post of cheating on tests used to certify proficiency with breathalyzer units.

Report Here

“This is not solely about cheating on a test that admittedly the vast majority of law enforcement officers can pass, it is about the public’s expectation that public safety officials should maintain the highest levels of integrity at all times,” the report stated. “Cheating, no matter the circumstances, has no place in a law enforcement agency. It cannot be tolerated, encouraged, or condoned.”

MOUNT GILEAD, OHIO - A Mount Gilead police officer accused of stealing air-conditioning units from Morrow County has been fired amid more criminal charges.

High Gas Prices Means Fewer Cops, Less Public Transit, And More Potholes

July 14th, 2008

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - In what seems to be a perverse reaction to high gas prices, some cities are cutting back on public transit - at a time when their citizens need it most.

Due to skyrocketing fuel costs local governments are being forced to trim all sorts of services - not only busses - but police departments and road repair crews too.

The Montana Highway Patrol, after failing to find enough police recruits, is using $300,000 that had been set aside for more officers to pay the gas bill instead.

Sheriff’s departments in Maryland and Florida have also reportedly cut patrol routes or officers.

“They’re not going to fill positions because they don’t have the dough,” said Ronald Reucker, president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. “It’ll mean more speeding, more drunk drivers, and more fatal crashes.”

Two “False Alarms” Over Lorain Ohio County Community College Leave Real Concern Over Their Timing - As Police Terrorize Innocent Civilians

July 14th, 2008

ELYRIA, OHIO - For the second time in recent weeks, an Elyria police training exercise, complete with simulated gunshot sounds, at Lorain County Community College has alarmed unsuspecting citizens, despite planners extensive efforts to avoid such undue alarm.

By now, authorities need to realize that however valuable the training, however careful the preparation and however much public notice is provided, not everybody will get the message, and some public alarm is almost inevitable.

The resulting confusion and potential for bad unintended consequences needs to be noted, even though the police guns are unloaded and gunfire sounds are simulated. These drills, training police to respond to gunmen on the campus, should be moved to a time before dawn or whenever else the general public will not encounter them.

July 11th, 2008

LORAIN, OHIO — Police are investigating four separate complaints against police Sgt. James Wolford, who remains on active duty.

But police officials won’t say what accusations have been leveled against the veteran officer, who has been on the hot seat before.

Lt. Jim Rohner, who is heading up the investigation into Wolford, said the complaints were confidential.

Police Chief Cel Rivera — who deferred comment on the investigation to Rohner — is aware of the investigation and decided to keep Wolford on the road, Rohner said.

One of the complaints dates back to fall of last year, Rohner said, but he would not elaborate on why it’s only now being investigated. The other three incidents took place within the past few months, Rohner said.

Rohner also is handling the investigation into veteran patrolman Jack Brown, who is accused of using racial slurs and spitting on his niece during a drunken Fourth of July incident. Brown also remains on duty.

Former Veteran Lebanon Ohio Police Officer Larry Loveless Receives Less Than A Slap On The Wrist After Stealing And Selling Worthless Gun From Police Property Room And Selling It To A Friend Who Ran Off With His Wife

July 11th, 2008

LEBANON, OHIO – His mistake was taking an almost worthless .32-caliber revolver from the police property room and selling it for $100 to a friend who would later run off with his wife.

He got caught when the break-up turned ugly and the gun theft was brought to the attention of police, his lawyer said.

Larry Loveless, a Lebanon police officer for a decade, was spared prison Friday after pleading guilty earlier in Warren County Common Pleas Court to theft in office and theft of a firearm. He faced up to 15 years in prison.

“There are two dumb things that Larry did,” defense attorney Pete Rosenwald told Judge Neal Bronson. “The number one dumb thing obviously was taking the weapon from the property room where he had control of it. (The other) was to give it to another person who, as it turned out, was having an affair with his wife which brought the problem to Lebanon’s attention.”

Canton Ohio Police Officer Anthony Jackson’s Felony Indictment For Gun In Bar Reinstated By Appeals Court, City To Decide If He Is Paid During Current Suspension

July 4th, 2008

CANTON, OHIO - Safety Director Tom Nesbitt heard arguments Thursday about whether to continue paying suspended police Officer Anthony Jackson.

Jackson has been on paid leave since an appeals court reinstated a felony indictment against him. Jackson is accused of having a gun in a Perry Township bar during an off-duty incident. Canton Police Chief Dean McKimm suspended Jackson with pay last week.

Jackson has since filed a lawsuit against the city saying it violated a “Last Chance Employment Agreement” the city granted him after firing him in October. The city had claimed that more than once he had misused alcohol and a firearm while off duty, and that he showed an “inability to control his temper in stressful situations.”

Nesbitt confirmed Thursday afternoon that he presided over a hearing involving the city police and law departments and the Canton Police Patrolmen’s Association, the police union which represents Jackson. The hearing will allow Nesbitt to determine whether to continue paying the suspended officer.

Black Woodmere Village Ohio Mayor Yolanda Broadie Accused Of Discriminating Against White Police Officers

July 2nd, 2008

WOODMERE VILLAGE, OHIO - Federal investigators with the U.S. Department of Justice conduct a search at Woodmere Village Hall. The village faces a lawsuit, accusing its black mayor of discriminating against white police officers.

Last week, a federal judge ordered the village to open its files to the Justice Department and attorneys for two fired police officers. Investigators wheeled in a copy machine to copy files as part of the suit. “We don’t have anything to hide, so whatever they feel they need that they don’t have, feel free,” said Woodmere Mayor Yolanda Broadie.

“This is an upside down case…who’d have ever thought that a black community’s being prosecuted for excluding white people, it’s astonishing, but the law applies to all Americans and that’s why this case is going forward,” said Avery Friedman, attorney for one of the fired officers.

Suspended Lorain Ohio Police Officers Jesus “Jesse” Sanchez And Stanley Marrero Back On The Payroll

July 1st, 2008

LORAIN, OHIO - Two indicted Lorain police officers will be back on city payroll beginning today.

Jesus Sanchez and Stanley Marrero have been on unpaid administrative leave since May 1. However, the Ohio law limits the amount of time the two men can be on unpaid administrative leave to two months, according to Safety Director Phil Dore.

”We would have preferred to keep them on unpaid leave but are restricted by law to two months,” he said.

Dore said he would meet with police Chief Cel Rivera and Law Director Mark Provenza to determine what the two men could do rather than stay on paid leave.

”Obviously, it’s, in our opinion, in the best interest of the community that if we’re paying these people, we should identify a task that needs to be completed and have them work on it rather than give them a free ride at home,” Dore said.

Former East Cleveland Ohio Police Officer Det. Tiffiney Cleveland Indicted By Federal Grand Jury For Drug Scheme - Faces Several Fraud Counts Also - Married A Drug Dealer Who Is Now Serving A Life Sentence For Selling Cocaine

June 25th, 2008

EAST CLEVELAND, OHIO - A federal grand jury has indicted a former East Cleveland detective on charges she used police computers to help her drug-dealing husband avoid an undercover investigation.

Tiffiney Cleveland is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and unauthorized use of a computer, according to an indictment unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Cleveland, 40, also faces several counts of fraud for providing false information on mortgage and vehicle loans.

Cleveland’s woes stem from her relationship with long-time drug dealer Lesean Roberts, whom she married in June 2005. Roberts, 39, is serving a life sentence for selling cocaine after drug agents arrested him in July 2006.

Mayor Eric Brewer demoted Cleveland shortly after Roberts’ arrest put the detective under a cloud of suspicion. Brewer fired Cleveland in October.

City officials were aware of the federal investigation and cooperated, Brewer said. “We’re cleaning up our own house,” Brewer said.

Cincinnati Ohio Mayor Mark Mallory To Veto Proposed Red-Light Cameras In City - Group Collects Signatures To Ban The Cameras

June 18th, 2008

CINCINNATI, OHIO - Cincinnati won’t ever have red-light cameras if Mayor Mark Mallory gets his way.

The mayor said Tuesday that he would veto any ordinance permitting them.

“I’m not convinced that they achieve their stated goal” of improved safety, he said at his weekly meeting with reporters.

It would be the first time Mallory used his veto. His predecessor, Charlie Luken, vetoed red-light cameras the last time City Council tried to add them in 2005.

Valerie Lemmie, city manager at the time, brought the idea from her previous city, Dayton, Ohio.

It takes six of the nine council votes to override a mayoral veto and, as of Tuesday, there weren’t six council members who said they’d support the ordinance as written.

The four opponents: Chris Monzel, Chris Bortz, Jeff Berding and Leslie Ghiz.

But the votes could change as the debate continues.

Drunk Driving Charges Conveniently Disappear For Lorain Ohio City Service Director Robert Gilchrist

“I was coming home from work and fell asleep at the wheel,” he said.

Despite a summary of the incident on the ticket he was issued in the crash that says Gilchrist performed poorly on field sobriety tests, he insists he did fine. He also said he didn’t refuse a breath test when he was booked into the Lucas County Jail, as the ticket said he had.

Gilchrist said he asked for his attorney and the corrections officer administering the test didn’t push the issue of the breath test.

June 3rd, 2008

CANTON, OHIO - Homeowners who don’t mow their grass in the northeast Ohio city of Canton now face stiffer penalties - including possible jail time.

The city council unanimously passed a law Monday that makes a second high-grass violation a fourth-degree misdemeanor carrying a fine of up to $250 and as many as 30 days in jail.

The previous law only made the first violation a minor misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $150 but no jail time. The new law is to take effect in 30 days.

“This is the type of action we need to take in order to clean up our neighborhoods and our city,” Mayor William J. Healy II said.

The laws are an effort to reduce the roughly $250,000 the city spends to cut about 2,000 private lots each year and to address public complaints, Councilman Greg Hawk has said.

Castle Doctrine Bill Comes Up In Ohio: Shoot To Kill - Dead Men Tell No Tales

June 2nd, 2008

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Potential victims who harm or kill apparent intruders in their homes or vehicles would get the legal benefit of the doubt under a just-passed bill destined to get Gov. Ted Strickland’s signature.

Sponsored by state Sen. Stephen Buehrer (R., Delta) and pushed by the National Rifle Association, the measure served as a magnet for changes to Ohio’s 4-year-old law allowing law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns.

The changes will make it easier for motorists to carry weapons in their cars and in school zones and will prohibit landlords from forbidding tenants from having guns in their rented residences.

The measure was among a flurry of bills sent to the governor this week as lawmakers near summer recess. It won strong bipartisan support in both chambers, despite a lack of support from some law enforcement organizations.

The bill would take effect 90 days after Mr. Strickland signs it.

Large Corporate Firewall And Proxy Filter Provider Selects Blogger June Maxam’s Tiny North Country Gazette Site As A Primary News Source - Just Kidding! They’ve Blocked Her Entire Site Amid “Security Concerns”

June 2nd, 2008

CHESTERTOWN, NEW YORK - A Bad Cop News supporter reports that (his/her employer) a large proxy/firewall company protecting the safety and security of many Fortune 1000 firms has permanently blocked blogger June Maxam’s little North Country Gazette website. This action was taken a while ago, but we just found out today.

Supposedly “…it would take at least an act of God at this point..” to remove her blog’s domain and Ez Web’s IP addresses from the list of banned internet destinations.

Our supporter provided legal access to two corporate internal proxy servers with which we verified that their networks cannot access Maxam’s blog. Above is the error screen (identifying information and graphics/logos removed - click for a larger image) visitors see in place of Maxam’s blog. The second company’s server returned the same information in a slightly different format.

At this point 1.38 million (est. by services provider) visitors are blocked. A “trickle down effect” assures that sites on the provider’s ban list generally end up banned in other proxy/firewall company’s products. The number of blocked visitors can only increase as the hours pass…

Considering the extraordinary amount of time and effort June Maxam expends READING her site’s log files and banning visitors based on their domains, search queries, or browsing patterns, maybe she’ll have time to concoct more bogus conspiracy theories (ie: “Google Spoofing“) or investigate “Jack MeHoff“.

Maxam recently (again) “suspended” her little dog and pony show (unable to resist taking a shot at two of her victims including Bad Cop News), while whining about her blog’s lack of advertising revenue. Her posts restarted a couple of days latter, with no advertising visible besides the infestation of pay-per-click spam down the right side.

LOL! No good content = no traffic = no advertisers = no revenue. Its really basic and doesn’t require a degree in Rocket Science…)

Bad Cop News can’t and doesn’t take any credit for the above action.

There is nothing of value on the North Country Gazette blog that wasn’t authored by others and/or previously published elsewhere. Despite this fact, Bad Cop News and/or an interested third-party will soon negate blogger June Maxam’s censorship efforts and provide free unlimited, cached, unblockable, and completely uncensored offshore access to all North Country Gazette blog content.

June Maxam Continues To Make Friends On The Internet (Not!)

Found elsewhere: “[June Maxam] appears to live in her own little wonderland where threats and abuse of others is a major past time because the world of normal people will not conform to her set of laws that she wishes to impose on them.”

And: “The site [North Country Gazette] that had the original stories is very strange. I don’t know whether to classify it as unprofessional or what. I also saw that the original article had no mention whatsoever of the word nationwide. But now it does. The author of the article at ‘North Country Gazette’ [June Maxam] is apparently trying to pull something over on someone. The original has been edited and updated, yet the timestamp on the article has not changed! Very fishy. I guess someone’s ego can’t take responsibility for their own errors and they must reinforce their own self-image of infallibility”

“On top of that the site [North Country Gazette] is just strange. There seems to be no way to publicly comment on anything the site puts out. Everything appears to be behind the scenes without any accountability. And on top of it the place is plastered with copyright warnings that are ridiculous. They want you to tag their articles to social websites, but nothing can be reproduced anywhere without written permission. Yet the very restrictions stated are broken even by Google.”

And: “For one [June Maxam] who sends threats to everyone who disagrees with her. I send an e-mail to June Maxam basically saying that I find her style of “reporting” to be self indulgent, harmful and misleading, and that I would personally research her and her actions as a “journalist” and do some investigative reporting of my own to any and all that would listen in the hopes of keeping innocent sheeple from taking anything she writes as truth without first researching for themselves. I said that in my opinion, she’s a hack, etc. etc.”

“What did she [June Maxam] do? sent a complaint to my e-mail server saying that I had spammed her. I swear to god, I never once tried to sell her a thing. I just informed her without a single obsene word that I am aware of just how full of shit she is, and I was going to let anyone who would listen know, so as to avoid the embarrassment of taking her seriously. And she tattled. Told Yahoo lies about my e-mail. Probably edited it and sent an altered copy. I laughed my ass off. What a freaking narcisist! wow.”

Found elsewhere: “”I’ve had several conversations lately about sociopaths and the law, and [June Maxam] is almost a text book example of that kind of behavior, IMHO. I have no desire to squelch her voice, after all free speech is free speech, but the larger issue of what is news, and the responsibilities of the fifth estate are a huge issue. I would have trouble taking anything her organization publishes seriously.”"

Lorain Ohio Makes Up New Rule To Suspend Health Insurance For Suspended Police Officers After One Complains About Not Receiving Other Benefits

May 31st, 2008

LORAIN, OHIO — Suspended Lorain police Officer Jesus Sanchez’s complaint that he wasn’t receiving his uniform allowance this year has cost him and another suspended officer their health insurance for the next month.

Dore said Sanchez and Officer Stanley Marrero, who also is suspended without pay through the end of June, aren’t the only ones who will have to deal with the new rule, which goes into effect Sunday.

DAYTON, OHIO — Brookville police said they arrested 11 people Thursday, including a former Dayton police officer, in connection with an alleged drug ring.

According to Brookville Police Chief Ed Preston, the arrests came after a nine week investigation which resulted in a search warrant being served at 616 Rona Parkway.

Officers said they began investigating after getting several complaints of drug activity inside the Rona Parkway apartment.

“We were able to get (an officer) in undercover and make some controlled buys,” Preston said.

Preston said one of the suspects, John Calvin Crenshaw, 46, admitted to spending time as a Dayton police officer.

“By his own admission, he’s a former Dayton police officer,” Preston said. “The guy apparently went the other direction, on the wrong side of the law, so we’re very happy to put him where he belongs, which is behind bars.”

Miami County Ohio Judges Elizabeth Gutmann And Mel Kemmer To Meet With State Supreme Court Judge Over Squabble - Judge Wearing Gun After Being Threatened By Former Bailiff Scott Niesley

May 31st, 2008

MIAMI COUNTY, OHIO — Two judges in Miami County Municipal Court, at odds over a bailiff, will meet soon with the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court to talk about their differences.

Chief Justice Thomas Moyer asked Judges Elizabeth Gutmann and Mel Kemmer “to join him for a conversation about the issues that have come up about the court in Miami County.”

The issues has Kemmer wearing a shoulder holster and loaded gun under his judicial robe.

In late January long time municipal court bailiff Scott Niesley reportedly made a verbal threat toward Kemmer and several other court employees. The threats were made over the telephone to another bailiff less than an hour after Niesley walked off the job.

Months later, and after serving a two-week suspension without pay, the bailiff was found fit to return to work in an evaluation. The judges were not in agreement.

Earl, a 20-year veteran officer, was in Cleveland to attend the Kenny Chesney concert when he suddenly collapsed outside the stadium, Rivera said. He never made it to the concert.

Luckily, several people were around and called for an ambulance, Rivera said. Earl was taken to Lakewood Hospital and later admitted to the Neuro Integrated Intensive Care Unit.

Patient information at Lakewood Hospital would not disclose Earl’s condition, but said he was in fact in the NICU.

Rivera said he was notified Saturday about the incident and has visited him a couple times. He was not, however, able to speak with him. Rivera would not elaborate on his condition only to say “he’s going to be out for awhile.”

“We haven’t gotten any confirmation yet that it was a stroke,” he said, but added that initial reports point to that.

Earl’s family did not wish to make any statement.

“His fellow officers are real concerned,” Rivera said. “Several have already went to visit him. We are all hoping and praying for the best.”

LORAIN, OHIO - Two Lorain police dispatchers were disciplined about a month ago, Chief Cel Rivera confirmed Tuesday.

One of the dispatchers allegedly waited too long to dispatch a squad car to an emergency, Rivera said. The issue came to his attention by an off-duty police officer who eventually responded to the scene of the complaint, he said.

The other dispatcher was written up for calling off sick without having enough sick time, he said.

Both employees were suspended for one day. No additional information was available Tuesday night.

Police said he had condoms in his car and alcohol on his breath. Flores’ car was towed, and he was taken to the city jail.
