NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - After a string of cops in trouble this week, New Orleans Police Superintendent Warren Riley and his assistant chiefs said Friday that they were going to each of the NOPD districts to address the force at roll call meetings.
He says they will “encourage and demand professionalism.”
Speaking about all the recent controversy, Riley told WWL First news, “It’s a major embarrassment for this police department.”
In the past week there have been three New Orleans Police officers disciplined for alleged inappropriate activity.
One NOPD officer allegedly led bridge police on a high speed chase, almost ran over an officer and allegedly slapped a cop.
Another cop was steeped in controversy for wearing an unapproved uniform.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - New Orleans Police Superintendent Warren Riley on Friday suspended Officer David Ellis, who responded to a complaint against another officer accused of waving a gun and screaming expletives at a woman picking up children from a community center.
Ellis, a five year police veteran, is the second officer suspended in connection with Tuesday’s incident involving Officer Ashely Terry.
Riley said officers responded to the Treme Community Center but no report was filed. A police statement on Friday said an investigation determined that Ellis may not have taken the appropriate action when he arrived on scene.
The department says Ellis was suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation and a final review by Riley.
Terry, who has been on the force for 15 months, also was suspended without pay while the department investigates her alleged actions. Appeared Here

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - New Orleans Police Chief Warren Riley says investigators are not done with the case of a cop allegely screaming and waving a gun at chidren in a day camp pick-up line.
He says they are investigation claims that an officer tried to sweep allegations of another cop’s misconduct under the rug.
Riley told WWL First News, “We don’t cover up anyting. If that officer went out and covered up something, he’s going to suffer the consequences. Clearly!”
Riley already suspended officer Ashley Terry (pictured) for allegedly waving her gun at a driver and some children in a fit of rage at the day camp pick up line.
The officer who responded to the ensuing 911 call didn’t file a report on the incident and witnesses says he didn’t even talk to the people who saw what happened.

BRUSLY, LOUISIANA - A man who spent the last several years serving and protecting south Louisiana communities now finds himself on the other side of the law.
The police chief in Brusly says this case surprised and sickened him all at the same time.
Officer Robert Williams is accused of stepping over the line to line his pockets, according to the chief.
Williams allegedly pulled a man over Thursday and while checking him found $2900 in one pocket and around $40 in another.
Detectives say Williams decided to help himself to the $2900. They say the money didn’t make it to the police station, until it mysteriously showed up after people started asking questions.
Chief Jamie Whaley plans to return the money to the man. He says the man had just left a construction job and that’s probably why he had so much cash on him.

SLIDELL, LOUISIANA - Slidell Chief of Police Freddie Drennan announced Friday his department had arrested one of its own for using legal traffic stops to steal money from Hispanic males.
Jonathan M. Lutman, 25, a two-year veteran of the Slidell Police force, was charged with nine counts of theft, that includes one count of theft over $500 and eight counts of theft under $300, plus four counts of malfeasance, after an investigation turned up evidence Lutman stole cash during five routine traffic stops going back to April 6.
“It’s a sad day when I have to do this,” Drennan said at a Friday press conference. “This is a blemish on us here and law enforcement as a whole.”

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA - A former East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office purchasing agent has been indicted on an aggravated sex-crime charge involving a juvenile.
The grand jury alleged Thursday that 41-year-old Reginald Tooley committed the sex offense between January 2004 and October 2007.
Tooley was fired the day he was arrested in October. He was the lead purchasing agent for the Sheriff’s Office.
Tooley had worked at the Sheriff’s Office since 2005 and was responsible for evaluating and awarding bids, sheriff’s officials said at the time of his arrest. Tooley was a civilian employee and had no law enforcement-related duties, officials said.
Sheriff’s officials said the inappropriate sexual behavior occurred multiple times, but the indictment charges him with one count.
The young girl eventually told her mother about the incidents, and the mother contacted the Sheriff’s Office, officials have said. If convicted, Tooley would face a prison sentence of 5 to 20 years, prosecutor Melissa Morvant said.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A 35-year veteran police officer with the New Orleans Police Department was suspended, with only 15 minutes left on his last shift, for wearing the wrong uniform shirt.
Sergeant Bobby Guidry was moving his personal belongings from his office to his car when he was informed by a supervisor that the older, powder-blue uniform shirt he was wearing was out of regulation.
The department had recently changed from the powder-blue shirts to an unpopular all-black uniform following Hurricane Katrina. Superintendent Warren Riley, who has defended Sergeant Guidry’s suspension, says there are plans to switch back to the powder-blue shirts by the first of the year in order to boost employee morale.
Sergeant Guidry told New Orleans’ Times-Picayune newspaper that he wore the shirt on his last day out of respect to the 18 New Orleans police officers who had been killed in the line of duty during his long career, all of whom wore the same uniform.

CADDO PARISH, LOUISIANA - A Caddo jury quickly found former Shreveport police officer Roderick “Rickey” Moore guilty Saturday of supplying drugs to strippers in return for sexual favors.
Judge John Joyce polled the seven-woman, five-man jury just after 2 p.m., barely two hours after he charged them. That showed only two of the 12 jurors believing defense claims there was no proof Moore actually passed drugs to the police confidential informant, a stripper at Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club. Moore, 52, had been charged with providing her with Lortab and cocaine.
Moore was impassive as the jury determined his fate. He was dressed in tan pants and a gray tweed jacket with elbow protectors, and looked almost professorial. His family members did not comment. But his daughter Kammi, who testified against her father, was quietly overcome by emotion as she sat in a rear row of seats as the verdict was read.
